Red Cross teen volunteers teach
Basic First Aid and Disaster Preparedness to kids.
During this past summer our team of 20 teenage instructors taught over 400 children what to do in emergency situations. The teens are now planning to use their early release from school on Wednesday afternoons to continue this important community service. New teen volunteers will have the opportunity to join the team and be trained as Red Cross Instructors in First Aid and Disaster Preparedness.
The team of Red Cross Teen Instructors will then be teaching life-saving skills to elementary kids on Wednesday afternoons this school year . They will teach children how to prevent and respond to such first aid emergencies as poisoning, controlling bleeding, rescue breathing and choking. The Disaster Preparedness subjects include how to prepare for and what to do during tornadoes, lightning, floods, and hurricanes.
To become an instructor or help with the Wednesday afternoon trainings, contact Debbie Tapp at 792-8686 or tappd@manateeredcross.org
