SERTOMA. A curious word until three very important words come together in unison: SERvice TO MAnkind. Sertoma’s primary service project is assisting the more than 50 million people with speech, hearing and language disorders. Sertoma also sponsors community projects to promote freedom and democracy, to assist youth and to benefit a variety of other local community needs, as identified by the individual clubs.

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, Sertoma is a 501(c)(4) not-for-profit international organization dedicated to
SERvice TO MAnkind”,
with 20,000-plus members in more than 650 clubs across Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States. Every year Sertoma clubs raise more than $20 million for local community service projects. Through these projects, as well as grants and scholarships, Sertoma clubs return those funds to their respective communities - and they have lots of fun doing it while building life-long friendships.

Serteen Program

Youth are the future of society – and of Sertoma. Serteens are young men and women, ages 11 to 19, who are interested in the world around them and who are motivated to improve their world through SERrvice TO MAnkind. The Serteen program is a great avenue for teens to identify and contribute to community needs. In addition, Serteen involvement also fulfills the community service requirement established by many schools.

Serteen Benefits:

Serteens form friendships and have fun planning social activities, service projects and fundraisers.

Personal development, including the development of leadership and social skills, is important to Serteens. Many Serteen clubs attend college fairs and invite guest speakers to their meetings. They learn to appreciate our country’s history and culture through outings, ranging from canoe trips to visits to national historical sites and radio and television stations. And, they “see the world” during end-of-year trips. They don’t just visit radio and television stations – they make the news!

Safe Ears

Sertoma
refuses to be
silent about hearing loss!

Hearing loss is subtle while, at the same time, pervasive at home, at the gym, in workplaces and in recreational settings. It is prevalent in teenagers and people in their 30s, partly due to new culprits, including portable music players (iPods) used by children, teens and adults.

Hearing loss is "getting younger" all the time, although it sometimes takes years to find out. Listen for yourself to this news clip aired by WFLA-TV in Tampa. TVPSA
